The Never-Ending Search for a Perfect EDC Flashlight

If you’re like me, you’re constantly trawling through youtube, blogs, instagram, what have you… for new gear to add to your EDC rotation. And if you’re like me you know how important it is to have a standalone flashlight as part of your daily kit.

The OLIGHT Arkfeld Pro is one of the most popular EDC flashlights of 2025, and for good reason. It has a premium build with an intriguing feature set not very common to see on a compact flashlight. This article seeks to inform you on why I believe it’s worthy of your rotation and why it’s stayed in mine for over a year.

My first Impressions

I first got my hands on the Arkfeld Pro back in the summer of 2024, what immediately drew me to the light was its interesting form factor. The flat design paired with the radial switch intrigued me. The premium all metal construction also impressed me and felt nice in the hand. It feels more reminiscent of a TV remote in the hand rather than your traditional flashlight.

I was skeptical at first due to the non-removable battery and proprietary charger (2025 models have USB-C). But after over a year of daily use, I have had no issues with charging or battery life. It literally goes anywhere I go, no matter the occasion.

Practical Design, Practical Carry

Due to its unique shape it manages to slip into pockets effortlessly and in a way that you won’t notice while it’s there. On the sides of the body there is some non-aggressive jimping to help you maintain your grip.

My favorite part of the pocket experience is the deep carry clip. The light sits completely buried in your pocket with only the clip as the only evidence it’s there. Oh, and that clip? Yeah, it’s double sided which allows you to clip it onto the bill of your baseball cap to use it as a headlamp, something I have done many times once you realize the sun was going down and you’re still trying to set up your tent and haven’t dug out your other lights yet…

Extremely Useful dual clip in action

Another great aspect of the design of this light is the magnetic base which allows this light to double as a very capable work light. Working in the dark has never been so convenient.

Finally one of my favorite aspects of the light are the controls. The light has a radial switch with 3 different selections which makes a very satisfying, and reassuring click every time you switch it over. Another win for the fidgeters out there.

The Perfect Trifecta of features

As stated earlier, the Arkfeld Pro has 3 different modes. A Green 3R 5mW laser, a 1300 Lumen light, and a 900mW UV light. At first I thought the UV light would be a gimmick, but you’d be surprised how often you use it, or to be more precise, how much my wife uses it to cure resin for crafts. I’ve also used it to check our hotel rooms for… uninvited guests or mystery stains (use at your own risk).

The laser is very capable and bright enough for enclosed spaces and even some outdoor settings. I’ve used it extensively on job sites to point out issues and use it to give my dog  something to chase…

And the main attraction of course being your flashlight. 1300 max lumens is more than enough for an EDC light unless you work in really dark or outdoor spaces at night. This light really excels with what’s directly in front of you and isn’t really designed for long distances. However this light has multiple useful modes including a moonlight mode for low power usage when you just need to see around your tent without waking everyone up.

Now, other dedicated versions of any of these features will of course perform better than the Arkfeld as standalone tools. However, the Arkfeld does all 3 very well in a very compact, convenient, and premium package.

My overall Take on the Arkfeld Pro

Ultimately to me the Arkfeld Pro fits into a sort of “multi-tool” category for EDC flashlights. It does more than one thing very well, but not better than a dedicated pair of pliers, knife, saw… you get the picture.

The battery life is very good and I’ve had no issues with it a year of daily use. I’ve dropped it on concrete, thrown it into bags, and just been rough with it in general and it hasn’t complained once.

My only complaints (which I’ve left out until now) have been addressed in the newest version of the light which includes a slider functionality to dim or brighten the light and they have added USB-C Charging.

I can honestly recommend this light to anyone. Whether thats an emergency light for the office, a good worklight on the jobsite, or a nice tool to keep on you wherever you go, The Arkfeld Pro is ready to go.
